AcuStep Orthotics
Are you ready to take control of your foot pain?
Foot pain and
discomfort is a fact of life for most people. After all, your foot
absorbs up to 1.5 times your own body weight as you walk. As shock
absorbers, your feet can experience up to one million pounds of
pressure during one hour of strenuous exercise! This pressure on
your feet can lead to a wide variety of foot ailments, such as
blisters, stress fractures, calluses, bunions, corns, along with
knee, hip, and back pain. (AcuStep)

Technology
Our orthotics are based on new technology!
Traditional foot orthotics are fabricated based on the foot shape to either functionally support the foot using a piece of hard molded plastic or accommodate the foot using a cushion. In both instances there is inadequate peak pressure redistribution which is the principal cause of foot pain. We realized that building an orthotic based on "foot shape" was not adequate. Instead, we decided to take foot orthotic fabrication to the next level by using a totally new approach. By using our patented in-shoe system to measure peak pressures while walking or running, an orthotic can be milled that more precisely redistributes peak pressures while at the same time providing proper foot support. Since pain follows excessive pressure, this is the most effective way to achieve foot comfort and optimal performance. (AcuStep)

Testing
The testing begins with a computer-read pressure sensor being placed in the participant's shoe. The participant then walks, runs, jogs and just stand on the sensor for 2-5 minutes. The computer attached to the leg reads and records the data.

Then the computer is hooked up to a laptop with software made to read and interpret the data. Images such as the one to the right come up. The red and yellow in the picture are indicators of high pressure in those areas of the foot.

This data is then sent to AcuStep, LLC in Salina, KS where they mill the orthotic to your exact specifics: arch height, foot shape and size, and pressure areas.

We receive the custom orthotics approximately 6 days after we send the files to AcuStep. You will experience a break in period of about a week when you first wear your orthotics; as with each pair of shoes you get.

After app. 2 weeks of wearing the AcuStep orthotics we will retest your feet while wearing you're new inserts. The picture to the left shows the before and after readings. You can see the the after picture has less red and yellow pressure points thus resulting in a lower peak pressure in those areas.
